The “Star Wars: Rise of Skywalker” teaser trailer debuted on Friday and the high action footage featuring the shocking return of a possible old foe gives often critical Star Wars fans hope the most recent trilogy can finish on a high note.
Highlights from the trailer include an impressive lightsaber flip from Daisy Ridley over a Tie Fighter, Lando Calrissian piloting the Millenium Falcon, and footage of the late Carrie Fisher in her final moments as Princess Leia.
The trailer concludes with the haunting laugh of Emperor Palpatine, played by Ian McDiarmid, who appeared on-stage at the premiere of the trailer.
Other questions include, what does the title of the film actually mean? Is there something more to Daisy Ridley’s character?
More importantly, the film could renew faith in Star Wars fans that voiced harsh criticisms of the “Last Jedi” and what was considered by some as a failure by last summer’s “Solo” stand alone movie.
