Toronto Raptors And Boston Celtics Must Boycott Game 1 Of Series After Jacob Blake Discussion

Players from both the Boston Celtics and the Toronto Raptors have discussed boycotting game 1 of their round 2 playoff series, after the Jacob Blake shooting that took place here in Wisconsin over the weekend that left him paralyzed from the waist down after being shot seven times (story HERE).

They should go ahead and do it. They have to do it now.

Listen, NBA players didn’t want to go into the bubble for a lot of reasons including this one. There were some that didn’t want to continue the season because of their push for systemic criminal justice change being delayed.

This is their chance to make their statement. They can freeze the entire sequence right here.

Now there are some that might not want to delay. Their reasons are their own.

And then there is the other side of this coin.

Do these meetings of boycott between teams even mean anything if they don’t go through with it?

That’s a fair question.

Because this is a sport, we also have to talk about the effect it could have on all of the teams involved. This is more rest for the Raptors and Celtics. The other teams in the bubble might have a hard time with that. Maybe not your super star players but management in the background. These teams still want to win a championship.

But if we’re talking about the progress in the movement, then the Raptors and Celtics have to boycott game 1. That will truly raise awareness of the cause.

Athletes have lead the way during these protests. I talked about that yesterday (story HERE). There is no reason that should change now.
