Giannis Antetokounmpo deserved that NBA Defensive Player Of The Year Award and Laker fans know it

It wasn’t long after the NBA announced that Milwaukee Bucks superstar forward, Giannis Antetokounmpo, was defensive player of the year that the NBA anti mid market sentiment reared it’s ugly head on social media Tuesday night.

And most of it was from fans of the Los Angeles Lakers, who wanted their man, Anthony Davis, to get the award.

But that wasn’t the case. The voting wasn’t even close. And Giannis was presented the award by coach Mike Budenholzer and teammate Brook Lopez in the same Orlando bubble they currently share with the boys from La La Land.

Giannis deserved that DPOY nod. And he’s also the MVP. It is what it is.

But critics insist on making this about the Bucks.

The Bucks had the best record in the league this year. They were the highest rated defensive team this year. Giannis is the leader of this team. Any kind of reasoning exam would lead you to the results. That’s because it’s common sense.

Now let’s not overclock the greatness of Giannis with the championship potential of the Milwaukee Bucks against a team like the Lakers in the finals.

I don’t think anyone is sure the Bucks could beat the Lakers based on what we’ve seen in the first round so far.

But that’s not what we’re talking about right now. We’re talking about Giannis.

Really, I was going to save this post for when Giannis won the MVP award. But the anti Milwaukee sentiment warranted the early push. And we’re going to see it again.

Critics need to maintain their focus. And if they do, they would be pretty hard pressed to choose anyone but Giannis not only as the best player in the league but as the best defensive player in the league as well.

And they shouldn’t take it so personally.
