Thursday Night Football: Bears find a sloppy way to beat Bucs 20-19

In an ugly, ugly win, the Chicago Bears led by new starter, Nick Foles, defeated Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at Soldier Field 20-19. The game was an affair neither team will likely be bragging about at season’s end.

Foles went 30-42 with one touchdown and one interception, but the Bears were bogged down by penalties on the defensive end all night keeping Tampa Bay in the game until the very end. One bright spot was receiver, Allen Robinson, who caught 10 balls for 90 yards and was the heart of the offense when everything else faltered.

On the visitor’s side, it’s possible Tom Brady forgot what down it was during the final and potentially game winning drive, turning the ball over to Chicago with almost no time on the clock. In addition to penalties on their own side, the Bucs had to cobble together their own offense in the face of multiple injuries on their end.

The competition got contentious down the stretch with multiple personal fouls called on both teams. The Bears move to 4-1, one game behind the Green Bay Packers in the NFC North. The Bucs move to 3-2 and will host those Packers next week at Raymond James Stadium down south.

Ultimately, the game should have made FOX happy. It came down to the last minute and was the buzz of social media all night. That’s a formula that draws both high ratings and a lot of eyeballs in the direction of advertisers.
