Power Rankings: Quentin Tarantino movies post “Once upon a time in Hollywood” (No spoilers)

“Once upon a time in Hollywood” is in theaters this weekend, and it’s a great addition to Director, Quentin Tarantino’s list of work (review HERE). But where does it rank among his other films?

Let’s rank all of Quentin Tarantino’s films after the release of “Hollywood”. We’re only talking about the films he’s directed completely under his name and recognizes as his projects (No Deathproof).

  1. Pulp Fiction
  2. Reservoir Dogs
  3. Kill Bill Vol 2.
  4. Once upon a time in Hollywood
  5. Inglourious Basterds (spelled that way by QT)
  6. Kill Bill Vol 1.
  7. Django Unchained
  8. Jackie Brown
  9. Hateful Eight

Analysis: It’s a great list when you think about it, and there isn’t a really bad movie on here. Pulp Fiction is still terrific to this day and there are fans I know that would have “Hateful Eight” much higher. When I look at elements of the top five, we have great characters, top notch dialog, shocking violence, and an unpredictable story.

Some nontraditional opinions on here would be Kill Bill Vol 2. getting a high placement, especially three spots above Vol 1. I think the second outing had more “meat” after setting up everything in the first film. Traditionalists might not like the “Hollywood” high placement, but it’s just a good time, and much lighter material than a lot of the other movies on this list.

Anyhow, there isn’t anyone that can turnout a movie like Tarantino. Many have tried, but only he knows the formula for his brand of moviemaking, and given he’s flirted with retirement several times, we need to enjoy it while it lasts.
