The 2020 Golden Globes takes place tomorrow and once again the Hollywood Foreign Press will present what many believe is a preview of the Academy Awards.
A very deep field this year. As usual, I like to present my predictions along with who I believe actually deserves the award.
Best Picture Drama:
Joker
Marriage Story
The Two Popes
1917
The Irishman
Who’s going to win: The Irishman. I don’t think they’ll be able to resist the star power in this epic 3 hour Scorsese epic.
Who should win: Marriage Story. This is simply an acting masterpiece and we’re completely invested how this heartbreaking divorce story will play out from beginning to end.
Best Picture: Musical or Comedy:
Dolemite Is My Name
Jojo Rabbit
Rocketman
Once Upon A Time…In Hollywood
Knives Out
Who’s going to win: In such a deep field, I think Rocketman will be the safe pick for many. Although I could understand any of these films winning.
Who should win: Once Upon A Time in Hollywood. Tarantino created an entire world of the dreamy 60s Hollywood scene that serves as the backdrop for our protagonists.
Best Television Series Drama:
Killing Eve
The Morning Show
Succession
Big Little Lies
The Crown
Who’s going to win: It just feels like the Morning Show’s evening. That’s not a joke. Aniston, Witherspoon, Carrell, It going to be too much for the competition.
Who should win: Succession was great this year and I also couldn’t be mad at a Big Little Lies victory either.
Best Television Series Comedy:
Barry
Fleabag
The Kominsky Method
The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel
The Politician
Who’s going to win: Fleabag is still getting all of the buzz.
Who should win?: I can’t say no to Barry after this season but Fleabag is a very close second.
My other picks:
Best Actress Drama: Renee Zellweger will for Judy while Scarlett Johansson should win for Marriage Story.
Best Actor Drama: Joaquin Phoenix will win for the overrated Joker, but Adam Driver should win for Marriage Story.
Best Actress Comedy: Awkwafina will and should win for The Farewell.
Best Actor Comedy: Eddie Murphy will win for Dolemite, but Taron Egerton should win for Rocketman.
Best Supporting Actress for Any Movie: J Lo will win for Hustlers but Laura Dern should win for Marriage Story.
Best Supporting Actor for Any Movie: Tom Hanks will and should win for his performance of It’s a Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood.
Best Director: Martin Scorsese will win for the Irishman. Bong Joon Ho should win for “Parasite.”
Other winners I’m predicting: Toy Story, Parasite, Bill Hader, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Billy Porter, and Jennifer Aniston.
