There are NO spoilers or information regarding the series finale in this post
Last night, we said goodbye to Marvel’s Agents of S.H.E.I.L.D after seven seasons of mostly solid story telling that really demonstrated we could get MCU material on a weekly basis that could supplement what we saw in the movie theaters.
They took Clark Gregg’s Phil Coulson, a likeable but unessential part of the early films and really let him fly. They gave us Chloe Bennet, who I can’t wait to in other projects, and the incomparable Ming-Na Wen who’s Agent May was one of the best TV action characters of the past decade.
The rest of the cast was also wonderful and they weaved in and out of some terrific storylines. They managed to do Ghost Rider the right way. The Life Model Decoy and following Framework plots turned the entire show upside down and kept everything feeling fresh. Then they got to space and in a spot where many other shows would have failed, they successfully adapted their characters to the universe around them and still made it work.
My only regret is that not enough people watched it. This is a happy occasion so I don’t want to ruin it, but the way the show fed the films, some love the other way might have done wonders for the ratings here. The same for the excellent Peggy Carter with Haley Atwell which only lasted two seasons. Luckily we still got some closure there but we could have done a lot more in her world as well.
They need to put this program on Disney Plus in it’s rightful place next to the other wonderful films of the MCU. It’s an appropriate place for this excellent program that quietly produced top notch comic book entertainment for several years.
I’m grateful for everyone that made it happen.
