On Friday night, the world was introduced to the the WWE Thunderdome. “A state of the art viewer experience, that uses pyrotechnics, drones, cutting edge lasers, and more for an unprecedented experience.”
That was the description given to us by WWE and it did not disappoint.
WWE gave us back the SuperStar entrances we so badly missed. True spectacles that were one of the best parts of the show back in the day. We had faces of WWE fans in seats and reinvigorated performances by a group of athletes that might miss you as much as you miss them.
And it all happened on Church Street. At the Amway Center. In Orlando.
I’ve said it before, I’ll say it again. The Amway Center needs to lean into this name (story HERE).
This is almost a reintroduction of the venue to the rest of the world. And thankfully it looks great.
The WWE has already put Orlando in the spotlight during the Coronavirus pandemic thanks to the performance center at Full Sail.
While terribly unreliable wrestling bloggers, YouTubers, and podcasters choose to trash Orlando because the WWE doesn’t give these non journalists access, WWE continues to draw eyeballs to the area.
Coupled with the NBA, it’s a gift really. Orlando is fulfilling it’s potential as a sports capital.
The Thunderdome will be around for the time being and let’s hope WWE continues to find new innovative ways to make the Amway Center look good.
Because when they do, everyone wins.
