May history remember the duel between LeBron James, one of the best to ever do it, and Jimmy Butler, one of the greats during this unprecedented era, to make the 2020 NBA Finals series memorable. Game 5 specifically. And this series will continue after the Miami Heat defeated the Los Angeles Lakers on Friday night, 111-108.
Jimmy Butler did indeed light it up for the Heat with a 35 point performance, and little known, undrafted, Duncan Robinson hit some big shots in scoring 26 points in a winning effort to defeat the Lakers after Anthony Davis suffered an injury early in the game. He would return to score 28 points.
The Lakers were aiming to end it tonight. Social media got “Win It For Kobe” trending as the Lakers wore their Black Mamba jerseys in an effort to honor the NBA great we lost at the beginning of this year.
It will have to wait for now.
Game 6 will be on Sunday night. A victory for ABC who will be airing the possibly deciding game against Sunday Night Football. Should the Heat actually push this game to seven games, we’ll see the premiere of the Bachlorette delayed on Tuesday night for a highly anticipated game 7.
But we need to celebrate this epic duel tonight.
