The Roku channel goes mobile, finally giving everyone decent free TV on their phone

Free TV apps are usually one of two things. Sketchy or worthless. They either lag in quality dragging down the overall experience or they’re showing us programming no one really wants to watch.

Roku channel is a better though and they’re releasing their mobile app today.

Now, for the uninitiated, Roku remains one of best streaming providers in the world and it’s what I use for my work here on my TVs. They also have a channel. That’s what everyone is getting the opportunity to have on their mobile.

Most of the programming is years old but the selection is vast and there is something here for everyone. It won’t take the place of your NetFlix or Hulu, but it can fill in the gaps rather nicely, if you don’t have the money for those, or have just plain watched everything on those platforms.

The live options are also pretty good. There is a lot of programming to distract the kiddos and some shows you might have forgotten are pretty enjoyable.

An important aspect is that it is indeed free. No money is needed. Not even a log in for some cases. Not all of us can afford a premium streaming service, so it’s nice to finally have an option like this one.
