Good grief.
That’s what we were thinking when we discovered that Apple TV had purchased the airing rights to the Peanuts Holiday specials. Taking them off of Network TV after decades of airing around each of their respective occasions (story HERE).
While you will be able to watch the specials for free on the Apple TV service during certain windows, it’s a very bad gesture to take away a free source of children’s entertainment and family tradition television after so long.
Apple TV should still allow the programs to air on TV but could have sponsored them instead. This belongs on antenna television.
Now “It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown”, “A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving” and “A Charlie Brown Christmas” are out of reach of millions.
But hey, whatever reality TV show they’ll throw up in their place will probably be just as good. Is that sarcasm? It is. But this is all just bad policy really.
We’re not alone in this sentiment either. The tweet advertising the special was also littered with negative remarks.
This is awful. These shows should be on air for anyone to watch.
WELL. Glad I’ve watched the Peanuts holiday cartoons almost every year of my 48 years on this planet since I won’t see them in…2020
This really bites. Paraphrasing the words of Charlie Brown…you gave us a rock!!!
You can read the tweet and the comments below. And Apple TV should fix this.
Celebrate Halloween with the Peanuts gang. Stream "It’s The Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown" exclusively on Apple TV+ and get ready for more Peanuts specials this holiday season. https://t.co/rq6TFCLS8L pic.twitter.com/DI14FsjR1l
