For the second straight season, Bryce Dallas Howard has given us an ace episode of The Mandalorian from the director’s chair, and the latest chapter 11 episode “The Heiress” delivers two highly anticipated guest appearances and an action packed delivery.
The first five minutes of the show already won me over, when Mando had to crash the Razor Crest on to the frog lady’s home planet. “Nice and easy” gave me my biggest laugh of the season.
Speaking of the frog lady, her reunion with the mate she risked her life and her eggs for was more rewarding than expected. This program continues to effectively deliver emotion from characters that are either wearing a mask or can’t portray emotion as easily as others.
Finally, we had the Bo Katan reveal featuring Battlestar Galactica veteran, Katee Sackhoff and Mercedes Varnado aka Sasha Banks from the WWE, as a member of a crew intent on taking down an Imperial Freighter and finding the Dark Saber. The combat here was all terrific and we really got to see why our Mandalorian is truly a special character in these fight scenes.
It was also interesting to get a look at the Imperials again and another look at Giancarlo Esposito’s villain. Hard to believe it’s already been over a year, but he remains as menacing as he was the first time out. Real “Breaking Bad” Gus stuff on display. And the Storm Troopers will always be one of the best hero fodder pop culture will ever give us.
And at the end, we got the name everyone was waiting to hear. Ahsoka Tano from the animated Clone Wars was mentioned, and one of the great Star Wars heroines that hasn’t been featured in live action yet is almost upon us.
She’ll be played by Rosario Dawson in what will be her most anticipated role in years of acting in big franchises.
Great work by Howard and we’ll all be back here next week.
