Listen, the entirety of AEW Dynamite’s Winter Is Coming show was good but we’ve got to talk about the arrival of a legend and a fascinating collaboration.
At the end of the Cody and Darby Allin vs. Ricky Starks and Will Hobbs tag match, we had the arrival of Sting. After a wonderful video package, he walked out, with bat in hand and snow falling from the sky. He made his way to the ring and had a stare down with everyone who was in this (excellent) match. It was a terrific moment and I can’t wait to see how they will use one of the GOATs of the industry. Wow.
And we must talk about the end. Don Callis from Impact, helping Kenny Omega end the long title run of Jon Moxley and the energy here was just tremendous and leave the entire show in limbo. It was an exciting cliffhanger that leaves everyone asking “what’s next?”. This truly is uncharted territory for both organizations.
There are also some very real business questions regarding this collaboration and how it will effect the industry.
As for the rest of the show, it was awesome as well.
The Battle Royal where MJF had to throw out Sammy Guevara, only advanced the tension within the Inner Circle and it looks like we’re going to have a showdown after the Chris Jericho match controversy, where MFJ and Sammy were both stuck in the “throwing in the towel” conundrum during their boss’ match with Frankie Kazarian. I can’t wait to see how this turns out.
Other high points.
We’re seeing this growing dynamic between Hangman Page and the Dark Order and we love it.
Britt Baker vs. Thuderosa is going to be awesome.
The Women’s division, who has been winning a lot recently, is also giving us Shida vs. Abadon. That will be a lot of fun as well.
Great work by AEW in a beautifully performed prime time show.
Some called this one of the best shows ever put on by the organization. And the hype is real.
We’ll be back next week!
Wow.
