Asking AEW viewers to follow epic drama to Impact is a real test for both promotions

I Don’t watch Impact Wrestling. Why? Because you guys overwhelmingly love my Bachelorette stuff more than my wrestling material, and this is a TV blog.

But after last night’s epic AEW “Winter Is Coming” program (story HERE). I’ll be checking out Impact next week.

This is because AEW gave us one of the best free wrestling shows we have had in a very, very, long time. We had the return of Sting. And if that wasn’t enough, we had Kenny Omega ending the long run of Jon Moxley and running off with the title. All of this after a wonderful battle royal and Inner Circle drama that just keeps getting better.

Really, AEW has earned my eyeballs for a visit over to that other promotion. At least for one night. And like many viewers that will be tuning in, their experience will be completely new to me. It’s their chance to win over a viewer.

And not just one new viewer. A lot of new viewers. That cliffhanger should pull the attention.

I truly hope that they’ll be running some special metrics over there to see what kind of conversion they get, after one of the best wrestlers in the world runs off with another promotion’s title. And those metrics had better be strong.

Because if that doesn’t do it, I don’t know what will.

It will also be interesting to see how AEW shores up things on their side. That Impact show will brush up against AEW Dark. Will they move that show into Monday and push it up against RAW? We don’t know how that will work.

But we can’t wait to find out.
