As many close watchers predicted, it was indeed Rachael Kirkconnell, who was the last woman standing in the Bachelor season finale. But her troubled past and her non engagement with Matt James was an unpopular wrap up for the show’s vocal fan base.
Kirkconnell was discovered to have posted pictures from a party celebrating the old south, ahead of her connection with the show’s first black bachelor in Matt. While she has apologized, the controversy also caused long time show host Chris Harrison to be sidelined after he fumbled an interview confronting the subject. Many show fans checked out after the other finalist, Michelle, was eliminated, refusing to celebrate the ending.

During the “After The Final Rose” special, Matt disclosed that he was no longer with Rachael, adding more frustration to the season everyone just went through. And the conversation with Emmanuel Acho, who was sitting in for Harrison, did nothing to help. They essentially said good bye forever.

If there was hope for the show, it was that fan favorite, Katie, would be the next Bachelorette with former show stars, Tayshia Adams and Kaitlyn Bristow hosting in Harrison’s absence.
