Shaq endorsing in contest to replace Val Demings is positive fun, but nothing more

NBA and Orlando legend, Shaquilllllllllee O’Neaalllllll (I can’t say it normally, verbally, or in words) has endorsed former Orange Osceola County State Attorney, Aramis Ayala, in the race for Congress in Florida’s 10th District here in Orlando, where Val Demings in currently serving (story HERE) until her bid for senate next year.

This is good news for the Ayala campaign. I’m going to post the video below.

But what does Charles Barkley and Kenny “The Jet” Smith also think about this very important Orlando congressional race?

The truth is that it doesn’t matter. And other than a brief acknowledgement and moment of happiness, it can’t mean anymore.

Because Shaq isn’t in touch with the challenges going on with residents in the 10th district.

Lack of affordable housing. Low wages. The increase of shooting crime in the Pine Hills, Parramore, and Millenia communities (story HERE) those are all realities that extend beyond Papa Johns and insurance commercials with The General.

Ayala is aware of these challenges. Look at her former job title. She’s very aware.

Shaq was once thinking of running for sheriff down here. I wish he had. Then he might be able to truly offer some valuable feedback other than endorsing on the set of a cable program hundreds of miles away.

This race is just too important.

So, let’s take a minute and enjoy having the “Big Aristotle” once again peek his head into Orlando politics. I hope he’ll come down here and campaign with Ayala and talk to some voters. Maybe he can use his huge platform to shine a light on how we’re struggling. That would be awesome.

Then we’ll see it as something other than a nod from a celebrity in a community they’re out of touch with.
