Tombstone: Epic western finally gets its due on social media 30 years later

Tombstone, the 1993 western epic, starring Kurt Russell as Wyatt Earp, Sam Elliott and Bill Paxton as his brothers, Michael Biehn as Johnny Ringo, and most importantly Val Kilmer as Doc Holiday was considered too trendy back in the day to get its due by the critics as a proper western.

And here, in the year of 2022, its being celebrated and hailed by younger fans who may not have even been born when it was made, as one of the greatest in its genre ever.

It’s a damn good western. And it aired tonight on AMC setting off this social media earthquake.

Russell is a great in-line protagonist. Dana Delaney as Josephine Marcus is a dream. Elliott, Paxton, Biehn, and even Billy Zane all hit their marks perfectly. And Val Kilmer is still the best Doc Holiday we’ve ever seen.

There was the shootout in the OK Coral. The war of words between Ringo and Holiday. And that memorable theme. All of it worked.

And finally, there are so many one-liners in this movie, that I repeat them to this day. And mind you, this was a troubled production that switched directors. It still turned out to be an enjoyable classic.

It was a good night. Let’s have a look at some of the tweets.
