ESPN fans rejoice! It’s been a long time since Stephen A. Smith was given the Saturday Night Live treatment. Almost a decade since he was played by Jay Pharoah in the well received segments which drew praise from Stephen A. himself.
Well, he was back on SNL this weekend along with the rest of the First Take Crew, with Chris Redd playing Smith this time, Chloe Fineman playing Molly Qerim, and SNL favorite Keenan Thompson playing Michael Irving.
The performances were good, Redd was strong playing a very animated Smith. Thompson had no problems with Irving’s hard breathing delivery and Fineman probably had the best lines in the skit, reflecting on how emotional the debates can be on the show. You can view the segment below.
And the ESPN First Take crew watched it on Monday morning. You can watch their reaction HERE
SNL regularly covers sport talk. Last week they turned to one of their favorites in “Inside The NBA” and they’ve also done a good job in the past with the CBS NFL crew as well.
