The delightful and zany “French Dispatch” hits streaming this weekend

You’re either a Wes Anderson movie watcher, or you’re not. There are many of us who are not and that’s okay, but if his signature style of filmmaking has managed to grab you over the past couple of decades then you’ve realized his films are worth the anticipation.

We got a taste of “The French Dispatch” trailer before the pandemic would knock it off the calendar like so many other films. But now the ensemble, all star, film has finally arrived to streaming this weekend on HBO Max and it was worth the wait and another worthy addition to the Anderson growing library of classics.

A series of stories regarding a Kansas newspaper with a satellite in France (it’s explained), we get a wealth of talent including Bill Murray, Tilda Swinton, Frances McDormand, and Timothy Chalamet, along with half a dozen other stars that can carry a film by themselves, working together almost seamlessly in one of Anderson’s best looking films yet.

But I have to warn you. If you’re not a Wes Anderson fan, you’re going to think it’s weird. And a process will take place and you’ll either be completely immersed half way through, or bored out of your mind. Don’t sweat it. Everyone goes through it.

The French Dispatch is a top 5 Wes Anderson film. Maybe even top 3. And if you know what you’re getting yourself into, then you’ll enjoy it just fine.
