Social media trends turn to Icon Park after Free Fall drop tower tragedy

Icon Park here in Orlando (where this blog is published) was trending nationally on social media, after the death of a 14 year old boy, who fell from an amusement park ride early Friday morning.

The video (which you won’t see here) was published online showing the tragic and graphic events that took place. The boy was on the Free Fall Drop Tower and fell from his seat during the descent. Some riders began screaming and calling for help immediately. The video then shows a security guard walking over to the boy and calling for help on the radio, while ride staff questioned each other asking if he was properly secured.

This is the second death involving an Icon Park ride in two years. An amusement park worker died while working on the Star Flyer ride in 2020 (story HERE).

Icon Park is located in the tourism district of the Orlando area, blocks from the Orange County Convention Center.

“Our hearts go out to the family of this young man,” said a representative from The SlingShot Group.

Many of the users online were discouraging the spread of the video on social media and calling for accountability from Icon Park.
