Abbott Elementary: Excellent first season ends at a crossroads

The first season of Abbott Elementary is in the books, and it was just plain wonderful. Showrunners of this kind-hearted and scrappy prime time comedy should be proud of themselves. They did an excellent job.

For the season finale, we got a field trip to the zoo, and it was as funny as we thought it would be. We also got some familiar faces from earlier this season showing up again such as Janine’s boyfriend, Tariq, Barbara’s daughter, Taylor, and Jacob’s boyfriend, all serving as chaperones for the trip.

We got some life changing news though. Tariq got called up to New York for a F.A.D.E (Friends Against Drug Exposure) expansion featuring his track “Meth-od to my madness”. And he wanted Janine to go with him putting her in a tough position. Barbara was also contemplating retirement, and it looks like Gregory and Taylor are dating now.

After getting stranded on a hot air balloon, Janine decided to stay with Abbott Elementary and broke up with Tariq. Barbara would not retire. And everyone made it back to the school in fine shape.

And Principal Ava kept her job. Yay!

Enough can’t be said about what Abbott Elementary did this year. There was only one episode that wasn’t excellent or very good. The rest of it was just really great family comedy. There aren’t a lot of people that can write like that anymore.

So. Now we wait. Abbott Elementary has been renewed for season 2 (thank goodness). But we’re already anticipating when school will be back in session again.
