USFL: “Chicken Salad-gate” provides first off-field controversy for Pittsburgh Maulers

In a bizarre turn of events taking place on Monday, following the USFL’s first week of football action, the Pittsburgh Maulers find themselves involved in a social media controversy with one of their former players, De’Veon Smith.

The Maulers first released this statement…

As you can see on the video from the docuseries, the coaches cut Smith following some apparent conflict regarding the food being served to the players. He did not want to eat the chicken salad being served and instead wanted pizza. When asked if it would be a problem, he said “Yes”.

"Chicken Salad-gate" is the first off the field controversy for the USFL and more specifically the Maulers, who had their first game against the Tampa Bay Bandits rescheduled from Sunday to Monday night because of severe weather.
