Orlando area state lawmakers increased school and work opportunities for veterans this year

This week, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis signed a series of bills that will increase opportunities for veterans in the Orlando area that want to advance their education or find a better paying job. These are bills that will eliminate redundant measures in the path to getting to work, and also allow for military experience to be eligible for college credits in applicable fields.

Before this year’s legislative session began state representatives and senators from both parties in the tri county area (Orange, Seminole, Osceola) met with me and other veterans to discuss these initiatives and were successful in their efforts.

A big thank you to..

State Senator Victor Torres (Army veteran)
State Senator Linda Stewart
State Representative David Smith (Marine veteran)
State Representative Anna Eskamani
State Representative Carlos Guillermo Smith
State Representative Fred Hawkins
State Representative Travaris McCurdy
State Representative Geraldine Thompson

And also a thank you to all of the members of the state legislature that voted in favor of making these laws a reality.

We still have a lot of work to do the areas of suicide prevention and veterans housing, but we did make some progress in improving Florida for our bravest brothers and sisters who want to “level up” in school and at work.
