It’s a New Year and we can be happy that Quantum Leap has returned, and that return led with a fun episode taking place in the swinging 70s with a well liked television veteran guest starring.
I’m of course talking about Deborah Ann Woll (True Blood, and Daredevil) who was perfectly casted as Carly Farmer (like Frank Farmer in the Bodyguard?), a music star who is going to die unless Ben can save her before she gets stabbed walking along Lakeshore Drive in Chicago (realism).
In addition to Woll and the fun Bodyguard vibes, we’ve still got existing storylines such as why Ben is leaping to save Addison, and the team trying to track down Janis in Brazil. The rest of the cast besides Ben, Addison, and Magic (Ernie Hudson) continues to be the drag but I can see what they’re trying to do. They want a two front adventure and I’ll be a little more patient for that. If they can get it to work, it could be good TV.
Back in 1979, we’ve got suspects. Jamie, the addict younger sister, and Trevor, the sleazy agent. I like the swagger Ben had as Jack Armstrong. Despite foiling several attempts, the killer won’t stop and it comes down to a big concert to save Carly’s life. It turned out be Loretta the back up singer, which was an easy bad guy but it still worked here. This doesn’t have to be Glass Onion or Kevin Coster and Whitney Houston. It did everything it had to do.
This was a really fun return. Absence makes the heart grow fond and I’m glad the show is back with a season 2 order. The teaser gives us Ben in some kind of medical role having to deliver a baby. I’ll be here for that.
See you next week!
