It feels like we lost the Superbowl.
That’s what was running through my head as our beloved AFC Richmond fell to West Ham in a match up that we were already pretty sure we were going to lose, but still stung nonetheless .
You might be wondering why I was so sure. Fair question. And I’ve mentioned it before. Victory in Ted Lasso isn’t dictated on the scoreboard. It never has been.
Many fans will tell you that victory came from Nate rushing to shake Ted’s hand after the match. Or they’ll tell you that it was Jamie being ready to go out and practice with Roy that was a bright spot. Some will interpret that video chat with Ted’s ex as progress.
But I’m going to side with Rebecca. I really wanted that win. The show did such a fine job hyping up the match up.
Some other notes..
Richmond was so over matched, Jamie making that pass to Zava wouldn’t have made a difference.
I’m going up and down on Shandy and Zava. When it feels like we’re supposed to get high with them, they do something stupid.
That scene with Ted in the elevator at West Ham, made me think of the scene in Captain America: The Winter Soldier, when Steve Rogers steps into the elevator with all of those HYDRA agents. They both obviously ended very differently.
You get the feeling that Nate would give back the car, and the martini’s with the super model, if the girl at the restaurant would just give him an honest smile.
Me and the show fundamentally disagree on the aspects of anger. It taught us a lesson that it doesn’t lead to victory. I guess they were right….This time.
But I would have acted the same way each of those players had after watching that video. That little s*** ripped up our sign.
And a question in closing. Was Rebecca actually chewing Ted out in the tunnel during the match?
I’ll see you next time.
