The Big Door Prize: Season 2 renewal, and a cringey-fun dancing wedding

Let’s get the business out of the way first. Only into the second week of its run, The Big Door Prize has been renewed for season 2 by Apple TV. This formula has some longevity, there are a lot of reasons to be optimistic.

But back to the present and the Father Reuben-centric episode. If you caught last week, you know that Father Reuben actually got “Father”, which led Deerfield to believe that he was already meeting his true life’s purpose.

However many viewers believed that the card actually meant fatherhood, and those suspicions were confirmed this week when we learned that he’s actually a widower and used to drink a lot. The sad story did end on a high note as he found some comfort in the arms of Hanna the bartender at a wedding.

“And which wedding is this?”, you might be asking, with a show only four episodes into its existence.

That would be principal Patricia and Malik, who she met while recovering from her motorcycle accident. There were even bikers at the wedding.

And it was a heck of a wedding.

The Mayor got bummed out by seeing her ex there and decided to use her dancing purpose to conduct an “overtly sexual” performance to “Damn, I wish I was your lover” by Sophie B. Hawkins.

It was bad. But it was also good. Cringe-worthy TV at its finest.

We also had Dusty get the party started by dancing (everybody was a dancer back in the 90s) to “Faith” by George Michael. This helped mend fences after him and Cass continued their recovery from Hot Wings-gate.

The show wrapped on a positive note, with everyone including Father Reuben finding some solace.

We now know that we have some time to play with here. Let’s see where “The Big Door Prize” goes next.

Hopefully with some more dancing.
