They Cloned Tyrone: Explaining the Kevin Bacon and “Hollow Man” references from the film
And yeah, if you haven’t watched “They Cloned Tyrone” and are wondering what exactly is going on with the art on this post, give me a second and I’ll get right to explaining.
After that thrilling escape from the underground compound, we observe Fontaine, Slick Charles, and Yo Yo attempt to drive away from the musically brainwashed mob at the strip club. But the mob lets up after trapping our protagonists and we see another vehicle pull up.
And wouldn’t you know it, Kiefer Sutherland climbs out. He announces himself as a “mall cop, except for a really large mall” and says the experiments were all part of “doing science for the greater good”.
Yo Yo responds “Oh, so you Kevin Bacon?”
Slick Charles adds “Hollow Man, Mother******”
Now in “Hollow Man” of 2000, Kevin Bacon partakes in experiments which allows him to turn invisible as part of a military op. He starts going crazy and goes on a murderous rampage.
But it goes further than that. Especially with Kevin Bacon and Kiefer Sutherland.
Kevin Bacon is one of his peers. They both rose up in the 80s, and have been in a couple of films together, including “Flatliners” with Julia Roberts, and “A Few Good Men” with Tom Cruise, Jack Nicholson, Demi Moore, etc, etc, (there were a lot of stars in both movies, also why six degrees of Kevin Bacon exists.) And let’s not even get into the “Guardians of the Galaxy mentions.
Its a surreal moment when in 2023 when Kiefer Sutherland is having Kevin Bacon spoken to him in a move like “They Cloned Tyrone”.
It’s another layer to each of their legacies in what is a pretty good film.
