You’ve read it here before. I’m sure you’ve read it in other places as well.
There is more than one way to win during an appearance on the Bachelor or Bachelorette.
You can play to win as the contest was intended. Go on the show, be the best version of yourself, and hope that the man or woman decides to marry you and that you spend the rest of your lives (or at least the media cycle) in love.
You can play and end up being the next Bachelor or Bachelorette. You get the full rollout, a whole season to yourself, likely Dancing with the Stars too, and probably a new life in the spotlight. Many would tell you that this is the real prize.
Or you can play to make such an impression that you can parlay your appearance into another opportunity like Bachelor in Paradise.
And in that third and final regard, Brayden, the Accessory King, the (mostly) redeemed villain of Charity Lawson’s season has won.
We know this because this week on the Men Tell All special, he essentially had two complete segments to himself, almost as much as Charity herself. There was the first discussion on the panel where he was debating the rest of the field over his behavior, and then he had a hot seat invitation where he got to give Jesse Palmer a pair of clip on earrings.
Then we learned that he had made it on the Bachelor in Paradise with an exclusive clip of him making out with someone on the beach while wearing a fedora.
That looks like someone who is winning to me.
Regardless of your opinion, including the point that he vacuumed the face time away from a lot of the other guys leading to their eliminations, he won. That’s how villains win.
A very well played game.
