ESPN: “Get Up” crew picks Chiefs over Lions even without Travis Kelce

As we prepare to kick off our NFL season tonight with the Kansas City Chiefs taking on the Detroit Lions, football analysts are also issuing their first picks of the year. This was the case on Get Up Thursday morning.

And the majority likes the defending Super Bowl Champion Chiefs. Even with the status of future Hall of Fame tight end, Travis Kelce, up in the air after tweaking his ACL in practice on Tuesday.

Why? Patrick Mahomes. Another future Hall of Famer.

But the panel didn’t undersell the importance of not having Travis Kelce on the field. And called on another receiver to step up past their touted potential.

“Until those guys prove to you without Travis on the field, I can get the job done, reality Greeny, its a question mark.” said Dan Orlovsky.

“At some point the Chiefs have to have a guy behind Travis Kelce. Somebody else has to be that person, and this is an opportunity to be that.” said Kimberly Martin.

The only panelist to pick the Detroit Lions was Damien Woody saying “This is the default to one guy. The only reason you guys have picked the Kansas City Chiefs is Patrick Mahomes.”
