Survey Data: Orlando International Airport ranked third in delays

Newly released data from a survey conducted by IPX1031 (link HERE) states that Orlando International Airport or MCO is third in delays among busy airports. And they’re tied with Denver for the bronze medal I’m sure they would rather return…

When it comes to the airports with the most delayed departures, those topping the list may surprise you. According to the U.S Department of Transportation, a flight is considered delayed if it departed 15 minutes or more after the scheduled departure time. The top 5 U.S. airports with the most delayed flights are as follows:

1. Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International
2. McCarran International (Las Vegas, NV)
3. Orlando International & Denver International
4. Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall
5. Chicago Midway International

If you’ve ever been to Orlando, you know that the airport is a complete free for all at certain times throughout the day. This includes going through security where the perpetually understaffed personnel have to bottleneck endless travelers through the checkpoints and into the trams heading towards the gates.

But I suppose in that regard, the delays might actually be good news.

All of this is further aggravated by an airline industry in disarray. Orlando International Airport has had a few protests from pilots and flight attendants in recent months (stories HERE and HERE).

And if the delays don’t get you, then the Burger King fires or missing walkways in the new $2.8 billion dollar terminal might (stories HERE and HERE).

Orlando used to be my hometown and I’ve flown through MCO over six times this year. My advice that could potentially save your entire trip?

Get there early anyways. If you’re a guy, use the toilet before you go (because there aren’t nearly enough there). And make sure your devices are charged for the long haul.
