Bel Air: Why “True Colors” may have been the episode of the series so far
There are single episodes of television that we like to pull out of a good series. These are outings that went above and beyond the regular pulse of the show, and if you had to win over a new viewer, these are the episodes you would show them.
It’s possible “True Colors” may be the episode that fans of “Bel Air” look to when they talk about this show in the future.
We have to talk about that street race.
Listen, I know this is NBC Universal and they have the keys to the “Fast and Furious” franchise. This street race that saw Will and Carlton push a Challenger Hellcat to the limit with Jazz’s Impala on the line for $35K was some fun television. It was no forgone conclusion they were going to win. It’s possible they could have lost and Uncle Phil would have had to come to the rescue again.
But that race was just the beginning of the craziness.
We saw Lisa snap on Jackie with some language that really threw me off from a character that has been the nicest on the show through this point.

Then we saw Frederick acting like a proper gangster stealing cash from someone he was betting on the race with. That interaction could have gone either way as well, and it was a throwback to the real danger Will dealt with in season one back in Philly.
There was the fight between Phil and Viv, that has set the table for some tough times for this power couple that was doing magazine stories together a couple of episodes ago.
And then there was the LaMarcus injury. It was a scary scene that football fans have observed happen in real life. LaMarcus, has mostly been a nice guy, and now it puts Hillary in a position where she might have to be the unintentional villain. She’s going to leave him after this. Both love triangles are cooking now.
Good television. Peacock lined up this season nicely. But don’t be surprised if “True Colors” is the one we go back and watch later.
