Bad Monkey: Yeah, that was totally JD from Scrubs on this week’s show
If you noticed a familiar face on this week’s new episode of “Bad Monkey” titled “He’s no Alvin Einstein” then feel comfort in knowing that you weren’t seeing things.
This week’s episode featured none else than Doctor Dorian aka JD from Scrubs. Known in the real world as Zach Braff from many other projects and a lot of T-Mobile commercials.
Braff played a character with an epic name, Israel O’Peele, while his lineage is complicated, his role in the murder that Yancy is trying to solve is not. O’Peele got himself addicted to every substance imaginable, and in a fraud racket with the Striplings, including Eve, who he called as soon as Yancy left.
The thing that might have thrown you off about Braff in “Bad Monkey” was just how rough he looked. While everyone has aged in the decade and change that Scrubs went off the air, showrunners (which includes boss Bill Lawrence) went to quite an extent to make Braff look particularly rough here.
“Boy, JD really took a turn for the worst.” myself and I’m sure thousands of other fans said as they saw him. This is because O’Peele is also a doctor.
“Bad Monkey” has taken it’s great cast and hasn’t been shy about letting them put some of their past characters into these roles, and it’s worked out pretty well. Vaughn is playing pretty much every comedy character he’s done in Yancy, and Alex Moffat is also channeling his SNL “Guy who just bought a boat” character pretty closely with this real estate agent.
So, yeah, if you came here to make sure you weren’t imagining things and that Israel O’Peele is in fact Zach Braff, then I’m happy you did.
