Trending: Social media reminisces over old Woolworth menu
Did you know that Woolworth used to have a diner?
Do you even remember Woolworth?
Likely, you fall into the same group that I do, with many of us vaguely remembering the store but never recall eating an actual meal there.
Enter this old school menu making the rounds on social media today featuring food items such as a Cheeseburger platter which for only sixty cents, would get you a quarter pounder with a tomato slice on lettuce or cole slaw and french fried potatoes.
Or a frankfurter dinner with beans, cole slaw and buttered bread for 50 cents?
That stuff would cost you so much more in 2024.
Social media had a blast with this menu, so much so that it Woolworth started trending this afternoon..
There was still a Woolworth's near my high school when I was a teen. The menu was very popular with students. The store closed not long after I left the area, but I think sandwich prices were already a little higher than shown in the picture. https://t.co/AoDe5vcfNy

When my husband was in high school there was a Woolworth's close. After football practice he and a few friends went there because – All You Can Eat Fried Chicken!
After their second visit they were asked to not come back, they ate ALL the Fried Chicken. https://t.co/r5uNDLvudV— Kathy Brown (@KathyKazaka) August 23, 2024
Back in the day you could sit at their counter and enjoy a yummy club sandwich with a handful of chips and a soda. Woolworth’s was what they called a ‘dime’ store because they offered most things very inexpensive, even a meal. Those days were wonderful …I miss them, another… https://t.co/SpboD3NRcq

Woolworth's was a department store. This must have been their lunch counter. https://t.co/Aex4zMiKbo

Woolworth’s 5&10 was a great store from my childhood. It sold everything except groceries. You could grab lunch there at the counter. We loved that store. https://t.co/ghn9tb6NYj

The concept is completely unheard of today. While grocery stores are part of department stores now, you can still go to a snack bar in a Target where they often sell Pizza Hut and up until a couple of years ago, K-Mart had quite a might lunch counter.
What do you think? Do you remember this old Woolworth menu? Let me know in the comments.
