Bel Air Season 3 Recap: Every family member had their moment

The third season of Bel Air season 3 is in the books and while we haven’t got the early renewal for season 4 like we did last year, there is a lot to talk about until NBC Universal decides to keep the party going or not.

This year ended with two earth shaking cliff hangers and some softer pregnancy suspense we can’t wait to see in season 4. And you can read about that HERE.

But let’s reflect on this campaign first.

Bel Air is a pretty vast presentation. Will and the entire Banks family really have their own story lines that gives us a lot to talk about. Let’s break it down by family member.

Vivian: Cassandra Freeman was my MVP this season and while Adrian Holmes is always solid and Olly Sholotan is the emotional backbone of the show, Vivian was given a lot to explore this year and the character flew higher than any other time in the both shows. Her wedding struggles with Phil. The drama with the cook. The “Black Lotus” episode. And finally that chewing out she gave Will in the pentultimate outing. Even that closing look at the pregnancy test. Just great acting.

Carlton: Carlton has been miserable for almost the entirety of the show, but he got some happiness with Amira before she fell of the wagon. He’s still at the center of the most powerful moments at this time of the series.

Phil: Uncle Phil is still my favorite character. Always cool and always in charge. The development storyline added some complexity to the show and the struggles real attorneys often deal with when dealing with clients.

And if you’ve been reading my blog for a while, you know bad community development has affected me harshly and personally. This stuff matters.

Geoffrey: The show changes genre when the reimagining takes the screen and Bel Air went all in on the Geoffrey family and it worked better than it should have. You’ve got to wonder how he’s going to react with the abduction from the family he loves.

Will: Jabari Banks continued setting the table for the rest of the cast. His stuff with his parents was fine but he was at his best once again with his Sholotan and the rest of the team. And the country club change of scenery, and Blackcess worked better than it should have. The beginning of that presentation was beautiful cringe worthy television.

And “True Colors” along with that ace car race was the best episode of the series.

Ashley:

“Well, I don’t dress for your comfort.”

The biggest “Oh ****” moment” of the season when she said that to Phil. My goodness. I was laughing and terrified at the same time. The scene was also cut nicely with Phil looking around to make sure his youngest was actually talking to him that way.

Hilary and Jazz: Showrunners chose the Hilary and LaMarcus wedding for our finale. And what made this complicated was that Hilary and Jazz weren’t the nicest people this season. They were cheating on fiances and committing crimes. The ceremony was still good TV though and I liked the hero shot of Jazz watching on.

While I the likely death of LaMarcus was predictable, it was still very well done. I still felt the impact.
