Episode 3 of season 4 of Only Murders in the Building has arrived and it feels like the mega star cast slowed things down this week.

Hot off of an excellent episode 2 that saw Jane Lynch at her best, and the return of brilliant Melissa Ryan’s psychotic Jan, the show had the tall task of keeping the momentum going.

But enter Eugene Levy, Zach Galifinakis, and Eva Longoria, playing themselves, as they pop in to study the trio they’ll be bring to life on the big screen.

We watch as they pair off. Charles and Eugene go investigate Stink Eye man (Richard Kind). Oliver and Zach try to get some rapport going by trying to bond. And Eva and Mabel go to Christmas all year guy played by Kumail Nanjiani.

Let’s get the ultra negative stuff out of the way. I’m so tired of the overexposed Nanjiani. Star Wars. Marvel. And now this Disney property. The part seemed like he wrote it himself as he literally flexed in front of Selena Gomez and Longoria while making himself sound like a victim. And I love Eva, but she seemed so grounded in the premiere only to completely fly off the handle here.

Galifinakis continues to just seem like a jerk. His faked redemption just cemented that. The “Perfect Strangers” theme is a classic though.

And we’ll go to Charles, Levy, and Kind. This actually worked and I thought Eugene getting slugged while Charles continued telling his joke was funny.

What happened to the Sazz hallucinations? It just felt really uneven this week.

But we’ll be back next week, hopefully with some real progress on our mystery.
