When we see Kaitlin Olson, our minds automatically float to the brilliant physical comedy of “It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia” where she’s been great for decades now (yeah, it’s “decades” next year).

We’ve tried to get her a vehicle to call her own but it never lands. “The Mick” was a strong try but didn’t work out.

And now, she’s getting another shot which mixes her Dee Reynolds with Sherlock Holmes and even a little bit of her ABC network partner Will Trent.

In High Potential, she plays Morgan Guillory, a single mom of three with a high IQ, that is also something of a curse that afflicts her with an OCD hybrid of dysfunction that confines her to the role of underachiever. But her genius grabs the attention of the cops and she begins consulting for them to kick off our series.

Here are my first impressions from the premiere which aired this week..

Give me all of the Kaitlin: The real gifting curse is that we’ve seen Olson acting so goofy for so long that we forget that she’s got range. I like her as the protagonist her and she could carry this series well if the writing works.

And all of the Judy Reyes too: You probably remember Reyes as Carla from Scrubs but she’s done a lot since then. But having her veteran presence here playing Olson’s cop boss gives network viewers the familiarity we enjoy.

It looks expensive: The cutaways and exciting shots to illustrate what Morgan sees (like Trent) are great. I hope they’re not spoiling us.

They should take their time with the long term mystery: There is a long game in Morgan’s story. And I know we live in perpetual uncertainty with modern television but I hope they take their time before a reveal regardless of how long this voyage lasts. I don’t want a solution anytime soon.

All in all, a strong start: The premiere has me onboard for now. I want to finally see Olson get her successful push and this would be a great way to get it done.
