Episode 5 of Fight Night: The Million Dollar Heist dropped today, and boy, was it a great meal. We had some plot advancement, and one of the best action sequences of the year that dialed up some 70s nostalgia for those who can appreciate it.

We had our Huddie and Chicken Man team up: Don Cheadle and Kevin Hart continue doing great work together. This episode was a payoff for those flashbacks and earlier interactions between the two opposites, and we know they hate each other but they also needed each other here. I enjoyed the chemistry a lot. Bravo.

And part of that team-up was that great shootout: Every once in a while TV will throw a movie caliber shootout at you (looking at you Fargo), and we got one this week. This was an old school shootout between Hudson and Andre against Frank’s thugs. Huddie with the revolver against the bad guy with automatic weapons, the shots of them running through the woods paired with the music. These are the action sequences our fathers and grandfathers used to watch. Just terrific.

Our heist team keeps getting smaller: What are we down to? Three? Frank is having these guys exterminated. And how about that scene with Willie sticking up for the younger guy against an abusive mom’s boyfriend? I was tempted to root for him at first but then he brought out the gun and shot the dude. It will be interesting to see how his story ends.

And another cliffhanger: Chicken fell into Frank’s Vivian baited trap and got himself captured. It looks like we’ll finally catch up to our flash forward next week or sometime soon.
