Intro: I’ll be honest. There aren’t too many vampire cards that I like. Which is ironic because I completely dig the mythology. But Furyblade Vampire has a neat buff that can make her a real pain for your opponents, if you pick her moments correctly.
What the card actually says:
Trample
At the beginning of combat on your turn, you may discard a card, if you do, Furyblade Vampire gets +3/0 until end of turn
“Writhe all you want, filth. It will do you no good.”
Analysis: Yeah, I get it. It’s a 1/2. No big deal. Right? But if you’ve got some junk in your hand, drop a card and it’s an instant 4/2 with trample. And that is enough do something meaningful when you need it. Given it’s a cheap card at only two mana, this is a decent play.
How does it feel when you play it?: I mean vamps are something that not everyone is going to dig. But there are enough vampire cards out there to put together a decent synergy when you need. And while we’re mono red and usually don’t care much for that word, we can make exceptions when it comes to goblins, dragons, pirates, and yes, our bloodsucking, creature of the night friends like this one.
Conclusion: If you’re running vampires, Furyblade Vampire is a pretty good way to go. A two mana, four hitter, under the right circumstances is a pretty good option to have. While you wouldn’t want to drop everything and go buy it right now, you should be glad if it turns out in your collection.
