Why Netflix should pick up Mina Kimes for their NFL games
This morning, buzz broke that Netflix is considering ESPN analyst Mina Kimes for their NFL Christmas games (story HERE). Kimes is an excellent analyst, I was happy to post some encouraging words on X.
Unfortunately, trolls love to give Kimes a tough time on the medium formerly known as Twitter, so I decided to publish a quick post on why having Kimes on your broadcast is a good idea.
She’s extremely knowledgeable, and when it comes to stats arguably one of the best on air right now: When I’m talking to viewers about Kimes, I always ask if they’ve listened to her podcast. Because while we love eight minute hits on NFL live, an hour of her breaking down each game and taking a deep dive into the numbers is a data driven paradise.
She’s an excellent team player on panels: Mina is not a “ball hog”. She’s a great panelist on ‘Live’ and Around The Horn. There are some personalities that can’t thrive unless they can talk for a few minutes straight. She can do a lot with as much or as little time as she has to work with. That makes for a streamlined and enjoyable broadcast. In 2024, if you’ve got a sluggish team on the call, fans will make sure you hear about it.
She’s actually a Netflix viewer, and great ambassador for sports in the Northwest: She actually watches the programming and is a big “Love is Blind” fan. On a platform like Netflix that is making big jumps into the realm of live sports like boxing, WWE and the NFL, this makes a big difference. She’s also a true blue Seahawks and Mariners fan. We don’t have enough broadcasters from the Northwest.
Netflix would do well to pick up Kimes. In doing so, they’d get a terrific addition to their team.
