NBA: A LeBron trade would begin his “Old Shaq” twilight era
“The Chosen One”. The nickname I first heard LeBron James referred to before he scored one basket in the NBA, seems so long ago. And it was. Over two decades. And much credit to him, he’s lived up to the hype and become one of the greatest ever.
But there is speculation, or more accurately, unconfirmed buzz, the Lakers could trade away LeBron to a contender. If the Lakers truly want to start over, this would be the way.
Make no mistake though. If the Lakers jettison James, he would no longer be “the guy” on the team. Most of you already know this, but I’m not sure he does.
He would become old Shaq. The same Shaquille O’Neal, who helped Dwayne Wade get a title. The same Shaq who tried unsuccessfully to get James over the hump in Cleveland before he did it himself years later.
The Phoenix Suns Shaq.
The Boston Celtics Shaq that we see in the memes, next to Orlando Magic Patrick Ewing.
That would be LeBron.
If he went to the Golden State Warriors, he’d be behind Steph Curry. That will always be his team. If he goes back to Cleveland to wrap things up, he might still be “the guy”, but he’ll be doing the same thing he’s doing in Los Angeles right now. It could make his potential jump to politics a little easier though.
But LeBron James will officially be saying good bye to his time as a showcase champion if he leaves showtime.
There is zero shame he should feel. What does he have left to accomplish?
Still, fans should be aware, we won’t see the king the same way again.
