Trending: Seven years later, “The Last Jedi” is still bad
Seven years after it was released, The Last Jedi finds itself trending on social media this Sunday morning. And once again it’s for the wrong reasons.
The anniversary allowed haters of the film to slam it once again. The second of the sequels gets a lot of grief because of it’s treatment of Luke Skywalker. In “The Last Jedi” Skywalker has shunned The Force, and doesn’t embrace Rey as much as the fandom wanted him too.

Many of the posts, say their favorite thing about the second of the sequels were the credits.
But let’s go over the real, non rhetorical, reason that many didn’t enjoy the film, including myself.
About halfway through the movie, The Last Jedi takes a major detour to a Star Wars casino and it does so with Finn (John Boyega) and Rose (Kelly Marie Tran), who at this point were two characters that weren’t tracking well with fans. The whole episode takes entirely too long and takes the air out of the movie.
And in it’s close, we get the death of Luke Skywalker. And while the build up and hype of a Kylo Ren and Luke Skywalker showdown was well done, in the end Luke, a character many of us have known our entire lives, just unceremoniously disappeared. The sequels didn’t handle the deaths of any of the big three correctly.
This is why we don’t enjoy them today.
Happily, director Rian Johnson still has the “Knives Out” franchise. But he missed the mark here. With more Star Wars films on the way, let’s hope we’ll find our way back some day.
