WWE: RAW on Netflix, could provoke streaming churn on Peacock

Churn is a buzzword used in the entertainment industry for streaming service viewers, who will subscribe to a streamer and then cancel it when they’re done watching their target show.

As WWE RAW heads for what looks like a promising debut on Netflix in a couple of weeks, we have to start looking at the budgets of WWE fans similar to the way we look at the wallets of MLB and NFL fans.

How much are they willing to spend to keep up with their favorite WWE Superstars?

Right now, with Peacock, WWE fans are spending at least $8 bucks a month. Still worlds better than the $50 bucks a month we used to spend on individual Pay Per Views back in the day.

WWE fans will need another $7 bucks for Netflix to watch RAW.

And of course, there is still the basic cable requirement of about $50 bucks if you want Smackdown on USA.

Only NXT remains free with over the air broadcasts on the CW.

And don’t forget fans who also watch AEW. They’ll need an additional $10 for Max. Despite the tribalism in today’s market, plenty of viewers still like both.

How will WWE viewers respond to the increase of spending to the Netflix deal?

They will likely churn services in response to programming they like.

If they prefer RAW, they’ll subscribe to Netflix and move a step closer to possibly cutting cable. They might also churn Peacock if a PLE doesn’t meet their liking.

If they lean more towards the blue brand, they might keep cable and put off subscribing to Netflix.

You will have your super fans who keep all of them, but it’s also a big time ask. While some fans are okay to watch endless hours of wrestling programming, others have a ceiling.

WWE will still be the winners here. But expect the tug of war of content between streamers and networks to continue especially as the flexible branding rules continue to allow superstars to go on any show at any given time.
