If you’ve missed the S2 premiere, you probably still remember the recruiter. He’s the guy that approaches potential players that are down on their luck and plays games with them before finally inviting them THE game, where it’s literally get rich or die trying.

At the end of the premiere, Seong is successful in his search for the recruiter, which has taken a couple of years, and the two end up playing a deadly game of Russian roulette.

Before the game concludes, the Recruiter shares how he got his job and title.

He was a worker in the actual game. You know. One of the guys in the costume and with the strange masks that ushers the players around.

“One day, they gave me a gun” he says. Then he became an executioner, who shoots the players that lose the games.

The Recruiter then goes on to recite a story of how he was doing his duty when he came upon a lost soul in the game, who he was getting ready to execute. His own dad. He doesn’t hesitate and the deed rounded out who he is today.

Our discovery of this important character doesn’t means much, he loses the game of Russion roulette with Seong and takes his own life, wrapping up the season 2 premiere.

While the character was despicable and his death satisfying, it was a great decision by showrunners, to give us more insight into who he was.
