Squid Game: Viewers are connecting the Crypto scammer to the Hawk Tuah controversy

In it’s second season, Squid Game is once again holding up a mirror to popular culture. And while the subject of this post is a coincidence, that may be even more of a credit to the writers who have underlined personal choice as an aspect to the deadly contests playing out on the show.

In the third episode of the second season, we meet Player 333, who is called out by the managers of the game for being paralyzed by debt and behind a crypto currency scam, which some of the players of the very same games he’s participating in, were victims of.

Unfortunately, for Hailey Welch, also known as “Hawk Tuah” due to the viral moment that made her one of the internet’s most popular faces this year, this is bad news.

This is because Welch was promoting Hawk Coin, and similar to the events in the show, currency crashed after supporters invested in it, resulting in major losses and a lawsuit over the crash (story HERE).

While Welch herself is not named in the lawsuit, viewers on social media couldn’t help but connect the dots between the show and real life events..

Squid Game season 2 production wrapped way before the Hawk coin controversy, so it’s unlikely an intentional satire. But viewers will connect current events when they’re watching one of the most popular shows in the world.

What do you think of the connection? Let me know in the comments.
