On Call: “Needle in the neck” portrays real life risk of drug exposure

On Call, which premiered this week on Amazon Prime Video continues to mix high drama with real life police dangers. Let’s talk about one of the sequences in episode 4 that may hit too close to home for many involved with stopping drugs in our community.

While you’re watching Prime Video, you might as well buy this Air Fryer from Amazon HERE!

During the close of the episode we catch up with Diaz and his fellow officer and buddy, Holt, chasing a suspect through a homeless camp. Holt catches up with the subject and gets stabbed with a needle in the neck. When Diaz catches up to him, Holt is foaming at the mouth and his life is obviously in peril.

Luckily, Diaz gives him a dose of Narcam, a drug used to combat opioid overdoses and Holt is saved. We find out in the beginning of the next episode that Holt is okay, and not HIV positive but is traumatized by what occurred.

The truth is law enforcement is at risk of these kinds of danger everyday. It doesn’t even have to be a needle in the neck from an attack. They can get sick from a needle puncture during a search. Fentanyl has become so dangerous that simply inhaling too much of the dangerous substance can kill a first responder.

It’s good that On Call illustrated the use of Narcam. The drug is usually carried around by everyone in the orbit of drug abuse. But it’s only a weapon in the fight against drugs.

Drug dealers truly are some of the worst people in existence. They destroy lives and often families to drive profits. If you’ve ever wanted to be a part of something important, help your local leaders fight back against drugs in your community.

On Call, delivered some good television here. But it’s also a potent community service message.
