Severance: New Lumon ad ahead of S2 premiere touts work-life balance

After three long years, the Severance 2 season premiere is almost before us, and Apple TV is stepping up its marketing of the highly anticipated return of its mystery suspense thriller.

We get a fake commercial from the devious Lumon corporation, that in their usual creepy fashion, taps into the 90s video infomercial vibe in trying to convince the viewer that the severance procedure is good for it’s employees. It emphasizes that the procedure, which separates an employee’s outside life (their ‘outie’) from their work inside the office, is good for their mental well being. We get some outdated stock footage of people doing aerobics and pottery in order to enrich their lives.

What is interesting about the ad is that it hops on to the free preview of the season 2 premiere that Apple TV shared with us earlier this year, with the cliffhanger from the season one finale being resolved with the our gang or Lumon renegades succeeding in their mission to reveal the company to the world, and being hailed as heroes for doing so.

Despite the footage, the mystery from the season 2 preview remains. Why was Mark, the only rebel to willingly go back to Lumon and undergo the Severance procedure? And why can’t the rest of the team let him know why they decided to not join him?

You can watch the fake commercial below. And season 2 of Severance premieres on Apple TV this Friday, the 17th of January. Best believe I will be there with full coverage.
