“Hereditary” is on Netflix, and the intense horror is for real
Listen, when you consume as much media as horror types do, movies never hit as hard as they would like them to. Even if you want to be scared, you’re hard wired to know what’s next. And after a while, the jump scares don’t even register.
But “Hereditary”, which has arrived on Netflix, has a great chance of being an exception for you.
The film that made director Ari Aster a name to always watch, stars Toni Collette as a mom, whose life begins to unravel when her mother dies and releases dark forces into her life that effects the rest of her family. I’m intentionally vague here because the less you know going in, the better.

What I can tell you, is that there are visuals in this movie that you will never forget and almost wish you never saw. Collette was actually under awards consideration, which is rare for a horror movie, because she unleashes her fears onto the viewer in a way that is so disturbing, it drags you into the madness with her.
It’s intense. It’s graphic. And even if you’re not experiencing fear, its mysterious enough to keep you drawn in just so you can find out what hell is actually going on.
Horrors are tough to recommend because we all scare differently. But “Hereditary” has freaked out enough people, it’s one you’ll hear mentioned often in discussions because it stays with you.
If you haven’t seen it, it’s a requirement for horror fans. And if you’re lucky, it will crawl its way back into the darkest corner of your movie watching psyche, to always remind you that the scares on film are possible.
