Special Forces World’s Toughest Test: Staff has successfully stolen Golden Tate’s joy

I’m not sure what Golden Tate ever did to the staff of Special Forces: World’s Toughest Test on FOX, but it must have been pretty bad. Because at the end of the second episode of the third season, he seemed pretty traumatized.

This has because staff has denied the NFL Super Bowl Champion joy at every turn.

He was failed from a challenge in the first episode because he pulled out some “finger guns” while rappelling.

And on the second episode last night, he was slammed for smiling during the competition.

To make things worse, after he failed to lead, staff made him and the rest of his team dunk themselves in water and then roll around in the sand, in something they referred to as something along the lines of a “sugar cookie”. He was visibly very troubled when the show ended.

Listen. I understand that this is supposed to be the “World’s Toughest Test”. Professionalism and poise are essential.

But before and after the challenge is fair game. You should be able to do whatever you want if it isn’t disruptive.

And denying a football player, especially a wide receiver, the opportunity to put themselves in the right mental space before an important operation is not only a disservice but dangerous.

You know what soldiers do after they succeed in a difficult task? They also celebrate. It might be getting “dapped up” by the rest of their team, and later it involves medals and other awards.

Staff has nothing to prove to the audience when it comes to toughness. Their accomplishments don’t need an explanation, and their presentation to viewers is excellent. Only Gordon Ramsay gets more mystique on that network.

So, do us all a favor and let a contestant marvel at something 99.9% of us won’t ever get to do.

What did you think of the Golden Tate treatment? Let me know in the comments.
