After years of waiting, Severance on Apple TV has finally returned with season 2. And it didn’t take long for fans to start popping out conspiracies. The biggest of the night?

Is that “our Helly”? Or Helena from the outside? The “Outie”.

Let’s break down both possibilities.

Why it’s still Helly: It’s completely possible that is still Helly. It’s also just completely possible that she’s not ready for the rest of the team to know how deep her ties to Lumon go. And she could be concerned that letting them know too much would cause them to mistrust her and drive her away. Especially, Mark.

Why it’s Helena: You can’t deny it. Britt Lower is playing it like someone who is pretending to be someone else. Her body language, her lag on the teamwork we’re seeing when she’s working with the guys. And Irving picking apart her story when they’re all catching up.

Either way, Helly is hiding something. But what does it mean?

If she’s real: The good news is that she’s definitely still helping the others, and if things once again go south with Lumon then she’ll be ready to burn it all down once more.

If she’s faking: Then we move into even more unknown territory. It’s possible that Helena might be a good person and will still try to police what’s happening inside of Lumon as her complete self. But it’s also possible that she’s there to provide some guardrails for the group to keep them around while protecting the company.
