Proposed Ashwaubenon baseball complex is a step towards legitimate sports tourism

As sub zero temperatures make their annual journey through our northeast Wisconsin communities, our options for recreation, especially physical activities, are limited.

A proposed baseball complex in Ashwaubenon wouldn’t completely fix the problem, but it would be a start, and something else to do in the community that calls out for bored families (story HERE).

The building, would be about 14.5K feet, and have about 10 batting cages, a pro shop and everything needed to operate. When you look at the site where it plans to operate, across from a major retail hub and a movie theater, it looks like a pretty good fit. And in line with an extremely protective community philosophy.

And claims that it would draw some sports tourism are valid. When I was traveling across the midwest for work, every weekend, my hotel would be full of youth sports teams and their families. They would be from outside our community, and choosing to spend their hard earned currency here. Junior sports tourism is real, and if that’s what Ashwaubenon is aiming for then this facility would certainly help.

Then you have the fact that the Rockers are playing across the street in their own complex. I believe they call that synergy.

When I was young, I played baseball and there is a chance that you were a baseball or softball player growing up as well. While none of us made it to the majors, we can say that it wasn’t a bad way to spend a weekend, and it taught us teamwork, and grew an appreciation for our national past time.

This proposal would be another step in inviting safe and fun recreational options to the neighborhood.
